Can you EDIT MESSAGES in WhatsApp?

okay so can you edit messages in whatsapp so if you just tap and hold on the message you will see all these options to start reply forward copy in for or delete so there is no option to edit the message the only way you should do it is just tap delete and then tap you can select multiple messages then you can select delete for everyone delete for me so delete for everyone and then the other person will just see that you deleted the message so what i would do is just send another message and that's how it works that's the new edited message that's the only way i don't know like why there is no possibility to edit messages in whatsapp similar as on twitter like there is no edit button and here you can edit messages
